We are a professional theatre company based at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, who tour small scale theatre throughout the UK and Internationally.

What makes us different is that our casts always include actors who have learning disabilities. The ability of these effortlessly talented performers is at the heart of every show we produce, creating work that is utterly absorbing, surprising and provocative.

We call it inclusive theatre. It makes much of the skills and raw talent of people who often get overlooked and gives them a platform to make and perform stunning theatre, alongside actors who don’t have disabilities.

Training actors with learning disabilities to perform at a professional level is also at the heart of our mission. We have established the only professional performance training in Wales for actors with learning disabilities. Our actor training hubs are throughout Wales.

This includes our Able to Act project in Lesotho (Africa) as well as our international touring. Hijinx were invited by Wales Arts International to present Meet Fred during the inaugural Welsh Performing Arts Festival in Dresden. Into the Light (2019) is our largest theatre production to date and features an international neurodiverse cast of 10 actors. Developed by Hijinx and Teatro La Ribalta (Italy), in association with Frantic Assembly (directed by Scott Graham), it also features cast members from Danza Mobile in Spain. This international show is largely nonverbal and explores themes of seeking interaction, connection and validation; told through physical theatre.
