Arts Council of Wales | A Butterfly Summer

A Butterfly Summer

A Butterfly Summer is a partnership project between Arts Connection - Cyswllt Celf, Theatr Hafren and Mid Wales Opera and funded by the Arts Council of Wales. More butterflies are on their way and will be flying around Newtown during the summer holidays before resting at Threatr Hafren for its reopening with Mid Wales Opera opera of Madam Butterfly.

Our part in the project has been to run visual arts workshops in schools and community settings. 6 primary schools are currently taking part in workshops to create panels that depict the life-cycle of the butterfly and these will be on display at Theatr Hafren for the opening of Mid Wales Opera ‘Madam Butterfly’. Artists Brian Jones, Caroline Lowe, Jessica Callan and Sally Duckers have been working with a range of community groups including Newtown Youth Club, Young Carers, Ponthafren, Cedewain School, Coleg Powys and more to design and then paint their ideas onto a metal butterfly, they have gone on display so far at Newtown Carnival and at the Oriel Davies Gallery. These and more butterflies will be flying around Newtown during the Summer holidays to be tracked down as part of the ‘Summer Butterfly Trail’.
