Outcasting

Outcasting started as an online moving image gallery in 2007 by artist Michael Cousin. Based in Cardiff, this is an organisation that offers an international platform for experimental practitioners. Now in its sixth year it will be looking at representing new media practice in any form, audio, digital imagery and web-based projects as well as moving image practice. Outcasting aims to present exciting work in online and offline venues, support the production and distribution of work through new commissions and distribution networks plus represent moving image talent on an individual basis. Outcasting also assists artists in production of new work.

Deborah Ann Withey

I am a Welsh-American artist whose early career was in visual communications: in journalism, print, digital design, and illustration, working as an illustrator, designer, art director and finally as design director for a group of 36 publications. I continue to freelance internationally as a designer and illustrator. In 2009, I decided (not due to redundancy) that I wanted to move away from work in publishing to find new successes in teaching, making and most honestly, to live a more varied creative life, for this I emigrated to Wales. In Pembrokeshire, I teach creative awareness and OCN art courses for adult learners, NEET, children of all ages and lead workshops county-wide. From my own studio, cheese and pickles, I lead intensive workshops which help to prepare individuals in their own careers in design an illustration. For my own creative expression, I work as a painter, printmaker and collage relief artist, drawing inspiration from my surroundings, medieval and Celtic art, Welsh language, history, and beliefs. I have been a lead artist for Cauldrons and Furnaces 2012, held an artist-in-residency, and show in public and private galleries. My work is held in private collections around the world.

MOMA Wales

The Machynlleth Tabernacle Trust was established in 1986 in order to transform the Wesleyan Tabernacle into a concert space (350 seats) for local and visiting musicians. It is also used for lectures and other events. It has become known as one of the finest chamber music concert hall in the British Isles and artists from far afield come to perform, and many ask to record there. The restoration of the Tabernacle was followed by the development of the adjoining property, and the building of a link building between that and the auditorium, that allowed four galleries for Art exhibitions under the collective name of Museum of Modern Art, Wales (MOMA Wales) to open in 1992. These galleries are open six days a week, including bank holidays, and entry is free. Approximately twenty exhibitions are held during the year, by established and emerging artists, many have an emphasis on links with Wales. The annual Open Art Competition attracts entries from throughout the UK. The Tabernacle Art Collection, comprising over 250 works of art, is kept in the building and exhibited as part of the exhibition programme. The building also has space for education and learning, mainly language classes but also used for music and art teaching. Local and national groups use the space available for holding meetings. The Trust organises the annual Machynlleth Festival in August, a week's programme of over 15 events featuring local, national and international musicians playing Welsh, Jazz and Classical music. The programme includes the Hallstatt Lecture on a subject of Celtic Heritage, the award of the Gold Medal for service in the world of Music, Art or Literature in Wales, and master classes for young musicians. Recordings of the Festival are regularly featured on Radio 3 and Radio Cymru. Development of an adjacent, historic industrial building The Tannery is well underway and will provide 2 further galleries which will enable better displays of the Tabernacle Collection and an area for sculpture. 2013 has seen the appointment of the first professional Curator at MOMA WALES and with this the desire to improve the quality and range of shows offered to visitors.
